The foundation of great art
lies in how you see the world…

I hope this holiday season finds you happy, even if you’re busy shopping, house cleaning, and prepping. Don’t forget to find time to slow down and enjoy the magic and inspiration that’s just around the corner!

As you navigate all the busyness, I want to remind you it’s also the season to embrace your creative spirit and give yourself the gift of growth, you’ve earned it friend!

But put your credit card away! I’m giving you the GIFT of expert advice for FREE.

Master Artist and Mentor Aline Ordman, has 4 TIPS to get you RE-INSPIRED this season. It starts with seeing and creating DIFFERENTLY to get you growing quickly!

1. To Create Differently You Must See the World Differently

The foundation of great art lies in how you see the world. Instead of focusing on literal objects, train your eye to see subjects as interlocking abstract shapes.

You can PRACTICE this skill by simply looking around wherever you are, squinting your eyes and NOTICING the shapes you see, not the things you see. Squinting removes the detail so overall shapes are easy to distinguish.

By simplifying and breaking down complex scenes, you’ll achieve a painterly quality in your work that feels alive and dynamic. This perspective will help you to create more artistic and expressive work.

2. Add Life and Story to Create Stronger Connections

The holidays are all about connection and creating stories together—try capturing that in your work.

Did you know you can create a narrative with just about ANYTHING?  It doesn’t have to be obvious or literal, like a happy couple holding hands, walking through the snow. It could be more open to interpretation, like a pair of pinecones leaning together on a snow capped evergreen branch overlooking the setting sun. The scene is ripe with meaning but the story is much less obvious.

This season, look for stories happening all around you: in nature, in the messy living room strewn with ripped wrapping paper and open boxes, in the quiet moments, and laughter.

3. Open Your Toolbox, and Pull Out Your Brushes!

This season, treat yourself to some new brushes! Did you know your brushwork is a tool in your toolbox? Brushwork can add expression, texture, and interest to your work.

A single stroke can convey so much! A bold, large stroke can express emotion and convey movement and energy. A series of small strokes can create subtle patterns of interest. The more you experiment with layering and mark-making, the richer your work will feel. Play around with your brushwork and see the magic of the season come alive on your canvas.

4. Take the Step Into Supportive, Expert Led Relationship

Mentorship isn’t just about learning techniques—it’s about building a relationship with someone who challenges and encourages you to grow. A mentor will offer personalized guidance, help you navigate artistic roadblocks, and inspire you to push your work to new heights.

This holiday season, reflect on what you want to achieve in your art journey. Then, do something for YOU – choose a mentor who aligns with your vision—someone who can help you develop not only your skills but also your confidence as an artist.

This is just scratching the surface!
