MEDIUMS: Oil
SPECIALTY: ✔ Technique
I started my art journey through the visual communications department at Utah State University earning my BFA in 1991 and studying art in Berlin with a Congress/Bundestag scholarship the following year.
In 1995, I started oil painting with Henry Stinson in Seattle.
Under Henry’s two year tutelage, I learned Sergei Bongart’s color theory and developed my love of painting outside.
Gorgeous transitions of color, to this day are still why I pick up
a paintbrush. Back-lit flowers, puffy cumulus clouds, and Seattle’s fishing boats, are currently some of my favorite subjects. My subject matter to me, however, isn’t as important as interesting light and beautiful design.

MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST
In 2008, Pat Clayton and I started team teaching oil painting together. Students learn both direct and indirect methods of paintings, color theory, and plein air techniques. Being continually in a conversation about art helps me grow as a painter.
Painting with friends is my happy place and I am very proud of the hours I have spent creating community and opportunities for artists. I am a past president of Plein AIr Washington Artists and a member of the American Impressionist society, earning signature membership in 2020.
