I am a textile artist making quilts from many different inspirations. I am inspired from the nature around me and capture it through my camera lens. Lately I have returned to my painting roots and I am creating quilts inspired from my paintings.
I was an oil painter before becoming a quilter and I relate the textures of oils, applied with a palate knife, to the textures I use in the fabrics I choose.
The colors and textures of the printed fabrics are what really excite me and taking these seemingly incongruent patterns and colors and joining them together to create a beautiful image is what makes my hear soar.
Mentorship Group Focus
I am a colorist so I would work with color theory, value and the importance of visual texture.
Critiques are important and I learn a lot as well as the students by discussing the overall visual impression of the work, the way that the eye travels around the piece, focal points and the power of color and value.
Technique is important so that the workmanship of the piece strengthens it and does not detract from the vision.

SPECIAL FOCUS: Jumpstarting Your Creativity 4 in depth studies with homework composition with line distorting the still life grid work abstraction. Each lesson will fill a month; the final three months will be taking one of these ideas further to create a masterpiece or more. This can be done with quiltmaking or painting, either will work brilliantly.

MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST
For nearly 40 years Katie Pasquini Masopust has produced high quality contemporary art quilts that have been coveted and collected by a broad range of admirers. From her early beginnings as a painter dabbling in traditional quilt making, her work has evolved from structured Mandalas and mind-blowing dimensional pieces to very painterly landscapes executed with the finest fabrics and most creative stitching techniques. Katieʼs easy, energetic manner has made her a very popular teacher and lecturer.
When not in residence at her studio in Fortuna, California, she travels the world presenting her contemporary quilting theories and techniques to classes; not only in North America, but in Europe, the Far East, Australia and New Zealand.
Katie is currently combining her love of quilting with her background as a painter, creating quilts that are a direct result of her watercolor or acrylic paintings. Sometimes paintings become quilts and sometimes quilts inspire paintings and sometimes the two mediums merge to create a mixed media piece.
