MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mentorship with David Boyd, Jr.

Kerry has been an artist all his life. As a kid, he won several school competitions, and in grade 11 got his first job in applied arts as a draughtsman. Following this, he worked at print shops and then advertising agencies as a designer and illustrator. During this time, Kerry attended the fine arts program at Kwantlen College, while also working with his Mentor, artist Don Li-Leger.

In 2001, after a few months of being an art director for an internet startup, he decided to change direction and become a full time artist. At this time, Kerry also started working as a painting instructor in Quebec, and found he was equally as passionate about teaching as he was about creating his own work.

Kerry’s current work is influenced by travel – both locally and abroad. In 2022, he spent a month in Paris, which was the inspiration behind his solo exhibition “Visiteur” at This Space Gallery in Vancouver.

Kerry works with water based media. His latest works are a combination of acrylic and water mixable oil on canvas. Thematically, his paintings depict city related imagery – people and urban settings. His style could be considered “loose realism”, where strong underdrawing is combined with heavy texture and expressive brush work.
