MEDIUMS: Acrylic | Ink | Watercolor
SPECIALTY: ✔ Technique

Together, we’ll dive deep into watercolour techniques, drawing from my experience teaching workshops to help you refine your skills. We’re also working on your social media presence, perfecting your CVs and artist statements, and strategizing your approach to galleries.

Most importantly, we’re building your confidence as an artist—something I know many need to fully step into their potential. Let’s take this journey together!

Artist Statement

I’m always seeking vibrancy in my art through bold watercolours and strong composition. I often paint the Rocky Mountains or the West Coast of Canada, as that is the environment in which I am immersed. I was drawn to watercolours originally because of how easily they flow and the way they feel on paper. I love the richness of colour and transparency I can achieve.

I begin a watercolour landscape with a good drawing to guide me throughout the process of painting. I first colour the sky to set the tone for the composition but allow the watercolour to do enough of its own thing that the vision is somewhat guided by the flow of the paint. Between each application I allow the watercolours to dry to ensure clean lines and no bleeding.

The painting will evolve and change from the original vision, as watercolour can have a mind of its own. Because of this, the final painting is actually a beautiful collaboration between myself and the paints.

MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mentorship with David Boyd, Jr.

Sandy Blass is a Canadian artist living in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Calgary, Alberta.  She is a watercolour artist who paints mostly landscapes of these great mountains, as well as the waters and forests of the Canadian West Coast. Recently Sandy has ventured into abstractions, working in acrylic on canvas.

Unfortunately, Sandy grew up in a childhood rife with anger and chaos. In the midst of these circumstances, she discovered painting as a source of peace, freedom and joy. Sandy’s lifework remains centred on these three themes.

Sandy earned her Fine Arts degree from the University of Calgary, majoring in Art History with studio emphasis on drawing. She also attended the Alberta University of the Arts for watercolour instruction.

She has exhibited widely in her home city of Calgary, as well as in the provinces of British Columbia and Saskatchewan, and in the United States and Germany. Sandy is represented by Art Gallery Kimberley in Kimberley, BC, Canada
