I mentor students and emerging artists who would like to understand how to develop their own unique vision and authentic aesthetic style based on that vision.
Everyone sees the world differently.
How do we understand that?
By what visual means is that achieved?
What is the artist trying to say as an expression of that vision?
What are the most effective mediums, techniques, and materials in expression of that vision?
How does one develop concepts based on visual concerns?
Ultimately, I give my students the opportunity to learn the skills they need to express their ideas and visions in ways that foster growth, and confidence in their own way of seeing and creating.
Artist Statement
As a visual artist, I express ideas and visual stories in my work that words cannot capture. This isn’t lofty—it’s simply a reflection of my strengths and limitations. Painting is my chosen medium because I love everything about it. The material is raw, elegant, and freeing, allowing me to explore without needing all the answers.
The mystery of how an image emerges keeps me painting. Mistakes lead to discoveries, and the process of figuring things out excites me. Technology may promise easy solutions, but painting connects me to something deeper—a way to mark time, explore the unknown, and share what I find along the way.

MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST
Anna Patalano is a visual artist, master teacher, curator, and managing director of a 105-year old, artist-member organization in Greenwich, CT, the Greenwich Art Society. The founding members of the Greenwich Art Society consisted of significant artists in the Cos Cob Colony of Artists, an important arm of the American Impressionist movement.
Through both her teaching career and working with a non-profit art center, Anna has advocated for practicing artists and students. Her knowledge and experience has helped her produce innovative programming, exhibition, and career opportunities for hundreds of artists, students, and teachers. Several of the programs that she has created over the last 14 years have been possible through her fundraising efforts in both the public and private sectors, including state funding through CT Arts and private grants through the Ford Foundation and the Rudin Family Foundation.
She has worked with private banks and investment funds such as Bessemer Trust and Northern Trust in support of community art exhibitions as well as with local hospitals. She has also worked with curators from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney, MOMA, the Guggenheim, and the Jewish Museum when they served as jurors for competitive exhibition opportunities for artists.
Anna resides in Bronxville, NY and continues to nurture her own studio practice while supporting other artists as they evolve in their development.
