MEDIUMS: Acrylic | Charcoal | Colored Pencil | Digital | Drawing | Gouache | Graphite | Ink | Oil | Pastel | Watercolor
SPECIALTY: ✔ Business ✔ Technique

I’m really excited to be mentoring Aspiring Artists! You are at the very beginning of your creative journey and I am honored to be a part of that process. In my group, the focus will be on building the technical skills you need to acquire confidence in your work. Doing so will allow your unique style to emerge naturally as we work together over time. Participants may work in the medium of their choice. I have taught a wide variety of drawing and painting mediums and will share technical expertise based on the individual needs of the group members.

Our sessions will be spent sharing knowledge through guided practice and constructive feedback. From time to time, I will do live demonstrations as appropriate for the group’s needs. I will emphasize attention to form, value, composition, color, and gesture. Drawing is an essential skill for all artists to have regardless of their medium or style–if you can draw, you can do anything! So many artists I’ve taught have lacked confidence in their drawing skills. There will be assignments that focus on perspective, proportion, and value mapping.

Throughout the mentorship, I will pay close attention to each member’s individual needs in terms of artistic development. I will offer customized guidance, suggestions, and critique to assist you in overcoming any obstacles or frustrations that may arise. I hope to positively influence your newly begun journey into the experience of being an artist!

BIO

Anne Kullaf is a professional fine artist with over 25 years experience. Her large format, custom oil paintings capture the colors and textures of the natural landscape. Anne has had a highly diverse career as a designer, entrepreneur and full time visual artist.
She is a former Bryant Park, NYC painter-in-residence, and Metropolitan Museum of Art Copyist Program artist who has taught drawing and painting workshops at:

  • Princeton University Art Museum
  • Edward Hopper House
  • Plein air painting workshops in the US, Canada, France and Italy

Anne currently resides in southern California, exhibiting her work at international art fairs and in her private showroom. She was awarded Best Solo Exhibitor at Art San Diego 2024, and also received the UBS Curators’ Select Award at the exhibition. Her primary body of work consists of large format oil paintings, however she works in all media to develop the sketches and studies that lead to their creation. Her work is in private collections throughout the US.

ARTIST STATEMENT

What makes a painting more like a poem rather than an essay? I believe the answer lies in the unique way the artist views the subject, approaches the painting, and applies the paint. I want to show you more than what is there, I want to show you what I see: little bits of color joining hands and conspiring to form an image.
