Kerry Viggiani
EMERGING ARTIST
Mentored By: Julie deBoer
After sustaining a brain injury, Kerry first picked up a paint brush in 2018 when her colleagues gifted her a basket full of art supplies. What was meant to be a tool to aid in her recovery ended up being a new beginning. Extreme vertigo, epilepsy, sensory flooding and chronic aural migraines forced her to take a hard look at her life. Kerry recognized she would no longer be able to thrive in the fast-paced demanding career she once loved, but as an eternal optimist, she chose to forge a new path and began pouring herself into learning and refining her craft as an artist. While she still struggles daily with nagging symptoms, Kerry has found tremendous joy through creating. Her art provides her with renewed purpose as she takes inspiration from the quiet world around her, while always using a bright palette of colors inspired by the visual distortions of her aural migraines. In the “Single Stem Collection” painted for Flourish, Kerry has created a series of “aural florals” using her limited palette inspired by the bright colors of her visual distortions before an aural migraine attack. The single stem floral represents the mindfulness focus exercises Kerry uses to manage pain while the surrounding abstract florals are representative of the loss of her peripheral vision as the attack progresses.
