Julie Spence

Julie (JM) Spence is an acrylic painter and mixed media artist, working on a variety of surfaces including canvas, board, and paper. She loves the playful use of colour and graphic forms to express emotion and movement. She is self taught and has benefited greatly from the guidance of Mastrius Mentors and the support of the Mastrius community. “I am drawn to the use of layered materials and mixed media to form representations of emotions, interactions, and space. I love colour and texture; I strive to create complex surfaces within each piece. These pieces are part from a larger body of work entitled Beneath the Surface There is Life, in which I exam the depths of ponds and lakes.”
