SPECIALTY: ✔ Technique
My best qualities as a teacher/mentor are in communication; the simplification of technical information into easily understood concepts, in motivation, and in helping students find their personal style.
As a skilled Keynote lecturer I create simple visual explanations from complex concepts by highlighting and animating my reference photos. In addition to the basic tools of painting, I include examples from physics, optics, neuroscience, biology, history, art history. etc.
This adds a more complete understanding of the visual impact that is possible the artwork being created. I also show students how to organize their workspace, work habits and even their palettes to increase productivity and decrease wasted time and frustration.
In addition to this, I have created exercises that help advanced artists find their signature style. As a mentor, I can use all these skills at hand to help artists advance their understanding and practical application of the available visual tools, improve their work habits to become more productive, and help them on their journey to find their personal painting style.

MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST
The love of painting has taken me on a forty year journey, compelling me down a path of discovery and delight.
The love of painting draws me to portraiture and figurative painting, when tiny nuances in gesture or expression draw from the memory and emotion of the viewer. The love of painting takes me to the still life, to capture the silent flow of lavender, cloudy-day light falling from an open window, or to the landscape, where the combination of land forms, water and cloud create endless compositions. Currently my focus is on texture, abstract composition and the quality of light… let’s see where that leads.
I love everything about painting… the weight and feel of the brush in my hand, that initial squeeze from a new tube of paint, the first stroke on a fresh canvas, the moment when I lock into that timeless place of absorption, or that one perfect elusive stroke. Painting is a delight. It is a meditation and practice in present moment awareness.
