SPECIALTY: ✔ Technique ✔ Business

Art changes the artist . It both challenges us and rewards us deeply. I strongly believe in the ability to create, to bring forth something which didn’t exist before, and to do that in a way that is uniquely individual to you.

My group will focus on developing the strengths of each artist, to find continual confidence and inspiration. My strength as a tutor is to spot an individual style and support it in a sensitive way where each participant feels valued as an artist.

I draw on many years of experience in teaching at all different levels, to enable artists to focus on the subject matter they are passionate about and increase technical skills which are the foundation from which we can express ourselves.

Karen, an Australian-born artist, is based on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, an area immersed in horses and art. Largely self-taught, Karen’s unique style has developed under the influence of study with accomplished mentors, notably the Michael Angel Academy in Florence.

Karen painted in oils at an early age, and then discovered a passion for the pigment and immediacy of pastels, and has become accomplished in this medium, with works in international private collections and recently selected for exhibition at Fiera Cavalli in Verona, Italy in 2021.

Karen’s work has achieved various awards, including twice a finalist in the prestigious Shirley Hannon Portrait Awards, and winning the Manhattan Arts International ‘Healing Power of Art’ award.

She has illustrated two books, ‘The Wisdom of the Australian Animals’, and ‘The Aromatherapy Insight Cards’.

Karen is also renowned for her teaching skills, and has been teaching for over twenty years, with many of her students becoming professional artists and holding solo exhibitions. The Karen Osborn Art Academy was founded in 2021. The Academy includes face-to-face classes, private classes, and online classes.

Karen is very proud to be in partnership with Paard Verzameld Equine Art Services as part of the Education department. Karen is also a Patron Member of Paard Verzameld Collective, and a member of The Pastel Society of Australia.

‘Living with my heard of horses, my latest work has been heavily influenced by the ever changing interplay of light across the equine form’
