MEDIUMS: Acrylic | Oil | Drawing | Mixed Media
SPECIALTY: โœ” Technique

I help the artists with a multitude of techniques through exercises and suggestions. I will also do the occasional demo while mentoring to demonstrate more clearly what I am speaking of. My fortรฉ is abstraction and would love to share my ideas of the many ways to approach abstraction, particularly the hurdle of getting started and when we artists ALL get occasionally stuck in our creative endeavours. And of course, how do you know when the painting is done?

Although MY favourite genre is abstraction, I do work in all genres and am formally trained at each. But painting is painting and no matter what the style, it is all the same language.

I work mainly in oils but when I teach and also work in acrylics. However, I can field all queries in art. I am also well versed in mixed media and collage which can be a great tool when doing preliminary investigation to work out ideas prior to working on the canvas. I am very happy to share my knowledge and experience with all of this.

MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mentorship with David Boyd, Jr.
Mentorship with David Boyd, Jr.

My art is forever in flux which only seems appropriate since time passes, life changes, and experiences are gained. But the one consistency that remains is my fascination of time and space and how we as humans fit into it. For me personally, this means that all trials and tribulations of past, present and future are explored and expressed in my art. Ultimately I am examining the relationship between my internal self and the external world.

In doing so, I translate thought patterns into forms, colours, lines etc. I develop numerous preliminary works on paper in acrylics prior to approaching my larger canvases and applying oils. I tend to think in metaphors, so painting is the visual vehicle of my voice. Expressing my ideas in paint transcends boundaries of culture and verbal language. I believe the questions I ask of myself are also universal to all people.

Although imagery is varied in my paintings, the mark making, forms and layers are consistent throughout my work. On each canvas, I build the layers and marks slowly, enhancing sections, negating others. I minimize or maximize the busy-ness of the composition to accentuate the intent of the work.

The end result is a sense of mystery; of what was and what might be.
