MEDIUMS: Acrylic
SPECIALTY: ✔ Artistic Process & Mindset Building A Cohesive Body of Work Color & Composition

My passion is to help artists paint more, daily if possible, because I know that’s the best way to become a better painter.

The more you paint, the better painter you become has been my mantra for years.

I also encourage having painting goals and strategies to reach them. I can also help my group paint in series because this strategy, if we can call it that way, will help them paint often, get better at painting a specific subject, and create a cohesive body of work.

A cohesive body of work is an important painting goal that could help them succeed in the art world. So, if we paint often a series, we can reach both goals: become better painters and ideally sell more.

I can also offer gentle technical guidance in painting with acrylics, composition, and color, and also in taking good still-life reference photos. However, the focus will be on creating a strong painting practice. In offering accountability so they can make painting happen often, very often 🙂

MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mentorship with David Boyd, Jr.

Born and raised in Venezuela, Mónica was always surrounded by paint and brushes thanks to an artist father. With a background in advertising she was permanently in contact with design, color and style, but it was not until 1999 when she formally started her formation as a painter.

Mónica has a graphic style and many have called her a colorist. She aims for simplicity, interesting design and strong brushwork. She currently shows her work at at the North Carolina Museum of Art Store, the Mattie King Davies Art Gallery in Beaufort NC, and her home studio (by appointment only).

She created the classes The Happy Habit of Daily (or almost daily) Painting, and Paint a Bunch, both help artists paint more. She strongly believes that painting often, daily if possible, is the secret to become better painters.

She lives with her husband and her kids (when not in college) in Apex, NC. And when not painting or teaching, she is coordinating painting workshops by well known artists at Painting Miles, the organization she funded in 2011.
